Figuring out the right foods to avoid when you have GERD can take some time. You might find that other people cannot eat foods that you are ok with and you are more sensitive to different foods than other people. One glass of alcohol is not likely to cause you too much trouble, but when you have several glasses on an empty stomach you are certainly going to feel some GERD symptoms. Eating food first will decrease your symptoms, so will avoiding the foods listed here. Try to limit your alcohol to one glass at a time and do not combine it with big meals or meals that already increase the acidity of your stomach.

You might need to take over the counter or prescription medications for your GERD symptoms. But you can also decrease your symptoms by limiting or avoiding these foods that cause an increase in stomach acid. Keep a food journal to help you decide which foods are causing you the most trouble and which ones do not cause you to have increased symptoms.
